content warnings for gone country
At its heart, GONE COUNTRY is about reclaiming one’s life after trauma and learning to trust again. While hope and healing are central to the story, the journey there is messy and hard-earned. Every reader’s experiences and sensitivities are different and, as an author, I would be doing you a disservice if I sent you into this book blindly.
Before continuing, please be aware that this story includes:
-
an on-page depiction of domestic violence early in the story (within a past relationship)
-
ongoing references to physical and emotional abuse as well as lingering trauma (within a past relationship)
-
themes of death and grief (discussed, not shown; including the loss of a parent to a heart attack and an implied death by suicide)
-
mentions of parental divorce and abandonment
-
guns (present but not used)
-
alcohol consumption
-
pregnancy/child birth (very minor side character)
-
on-page open-door sex scenes.
I have done my best to handle these topics with the care and intention they deserve. With that said, I encourage you to prioritize your mental and emotional well-being while reading. If at any point this story feels like too much, it is completely okay to pause, skip sections, or choose not to continue. Taking care of yourself always comes first.
Thank you for trusting me with your time and your heart…
